Day four: Oda beats Hewett in singles final
The singles champions have been crowned at the Lexus British Open Roehampton, with Tokito Oda and Wang Ziying both claiming singles titles for the first time.
Oda produced a confident display against defending champion Alfie Hewett, winning 6-3, 6-1 to lift his first Lexus British Open Roehampton singles title.
Hewett will return to court later today to contest the doubles final alongside Gordon Reid. The all-British duo will play Spain's Martin De La Puente and Ruben Spaargaren in a bid to take home the silverware.
Meanwhile, reigning Wimbledon champion Wang Ziying also claimed her first Lexus British Open singles title after top seed Diede de Groot was forced to retire in the second set, trailing the Chinese star 7-5, 3-1.
The quad singles final saw Guy Sasson come back from a set down to beat Jin Woodman 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
Doubles
Hewett shook off the disappointmentf from the singles final and returned to the doubles court alongside Gordon Reid to sweep up the doubles crown.
The all-British duo narrowly came through a tight match-deciding tie-break against Spain's Martin De La Puente and Ruben Spaargaren - winning 6-4, 4-6, 11-9.
Due to injury, de Groot and fellow Dutchwoman Aniek Van Koot were forced to withdraw ahead of their women's doubles final - handing Wang and Li Xiaohui a walkover to the silverware.
Britain's Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade finished quad doubles runners-up after losing out to top seeds Sasson and Niels Vink 6-0, 6-1.
The world No.1 and No.2 will meet in the final of the men’s wheelchair singles at the Lexus British Open Roehampton, with Japan’s Tokito Oda and Britain’s Alfie Hewett both winning in straight sets.
Reigning champion and British No.1 Hewett put in a solid performance to see off 2024 title-winner Gustavo Fernandez 6-3, 6-2.
Hewett won the last four straight games to book his place in Friday’s final and set up an sixth meeting with Oda this season.
World No.1 Oda hit 14 aces in a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Spain’s Martin De La Puente in the semi-finals.
The Brit will be aiming to overturn the result against Oda in the Roland Garros final this year, and beat the top seed for a first time on grass.
Top seed Diede de Groot will play reigning Wimbledon champion Wang Ziying in tomorrow's women's singles final.
De Groot beat Aniek van Koot 6-1, 6-1 in the semi-finals, while Wang knocked out Li Xiaohui 6-4, 6-4.
Meanwhile, Lexus Eastbourne Open quad singles champion Jin Woodman upset top seed and defending champion Niels Vink 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 in the quad singles semi-final.
He is set to face Guy Sasson in tomorrow's final after he beat world No.2 and 2025 finalist Sam Schroder 5-7, 7-5, 6-2.
Doubles
Hewett and Gordon Reid are into the men's doubles final with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win over Tom Egberink and Maarten Ter Hofte.
However, Britain's Ben Bartram and Japan's Takuya Miki lost out to second seeds De La Puente and Ruben Spaargaren 6-3, 6-2 in the semi-finals.
Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade came from 4-2 down in the second set to defeat second seeds Sam Schroder and Jin Woodman 1-6, 7-5, 10-7, and reach tomorrow's quad doubles final.
There, they will meet top seeds Sasson and Vink.
Li and Wang will team up to play De Groot and Van Koot in the women's doubles final on Friday.
Alfie Hewett secured another straightforward victory to reach the semi-final of the men's wheelchair singles in Roehampton, but there was defeat for Greg Slade and Andy Lapthorne.
Reigning champion Hewett wasted no time in breezing past No.9 Zhenxu Ji 6-1, 6-1.
Hewett will face a familiar opponent in Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez in the semi-final after he knocked out Ruben Spaargaren 6-3, 7-5.
The other semi-final will be fought between world No.1 Tokito Oda and Spain's Martin de La Puente, who defeated Gordon Reid yesterday.
New British quad singles No.1 Slade lost a nail-biting clash with Eastbourne champion Jin Woodman.
Slade battled back to win the second set tie-break, but the Australian eventually came through 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2. He plays world No.1 Niels Vink in the next round.
Lapthorne lost to world No.3 Guy Sasson 6-1, 6-1 in the first match on Court 1. Sasson now faces Dutch star Sam Schroder in the semis.
The women's singles semi-finals will be Diede de Groot vs Aniek Van Koot, and Xiaohui Li vs Ziying Wang.
Doubles
The doubles draws got underway on Wednesday with several Brits in action.
Ben Bartram and Japanese partner Takuya Miki were amongst the match winners in the men's wheelchair doubles.
Bartram and Miki knocked out Daniel Caverzaschi and Casey Ratzlaff 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 in an epic on Court 17.
Lapthorne and Slade got a walkover into the quad doubles semi-final against Schroder and Woodman.
However, there were defeats for Lucy Shuker, Cornelia Oosthuizen, Andrew Penney, Dahnon Ward, Oliver Cox and Gary Cox.
