Carlos Alcaraz's best moments at the HSBC Championships

• 2 minute read

Carlos Alcaraz has quickly established himself as one of the HSBC Championships' most successful players in recent history.

In just three appearances at The Queen’s Club, the Spaniard has lifted two titles, produced many memorable moments and used the tournament to kick-start two Wimbledon-winning campaigns.

Ahead of his return to the HSBC Championships in 2027, we look back at some of Alcaraz’s standout moments in West London.

Epic comeback on debut against Arthur Rinderknech

Let’s start at the beginning back in 2023 when Alcaraz made his Queen’s Club debut. The Spaniard arrived ranked world No.2, the top seed and with a lot of pressure on his shoulders following his semi-final run at Roland Garros.

Despite being one of the world's leading players, Alcaraz was still relatively unproven on grass, having played just six matches on the surface before his Queen's debut.

Those doubts were immediately tested in a gruelling first-round battle against Arthur Rinderknech. After dropping the opening set, Alcaraz fought back to force a decider where he overturned a 2-0 deficit to eventually come through 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) in over two and a half hours.

Returning to world No.1 after securing his first title

After escaping an early scare over Rinderknech, Alcaraz went on to breeze through his next four matches against Jiri Lehecka, Grigor Dimitrov and Sebastian Korda to set up a final clash against Alex de Minaur.

There, the Spaniard rounded off a dream debut by defeating the Australian 6-4, 6-4 to secure a career-first grass court title and see him reclaim the world No.1 ranking.

It was the moment where people realised Alcaraz wasn't just capable of playing on grass, but also dominating on it, which he proved once again just weeks later. He went on to capture his first Wimbledon crown - defeating Novak Djokovic in an unforgettable five-set thriller.

In doing so, he became only the eighth man in the Open Era to win The Queen's Club Championships and Wimbledon titles in the same season.

The Munar marathon

The two-time champion has enjoyed plenty of standout battles on the turf in West London, but his second round match against compatriot Jaume Munar last year is by far one of the most memorable.

After the first set comfortably fell the way of Alcaraz, Munar managed to hit back in the second - saving a match point in the tie-break before forcing a deciding set.

With cramp beginning to take its toll and Munar leading 4-2 in the deciding set, Alcaraz dug deep to produce another trademark escape, reeling off four of the final five games to seal a 6-4, 6-7(7), 7-5 victory after three hours and 23 minutes.

Capturing his 250th ATP Tour-level win in West London

As if The Queen's Club didn't already hold plenty of special memories for Alcaraz, it also became the tournament where he ticked off another impressive milestone.

The Spaniard secured the 250th ATP Tour-level win of his career with a straight set victory over compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut in the semi-finals of the 2025 HSBC Championships.

In doing so, the then 22-year-old became the third-fastest player among those who began their careers in the Open Era to record 250 ATP tour-level wins.

Becoming a two-time Queen’s Club champion

Alcaraz's bid for a second HSBC Championships title came down to a blockbuster final against Czech star Lehecka, who had enjoyed a breakthrough week on the grass in West London.

Alcaraz bounced back from dropping a tight second set tie-break to ease through the decider and secure a 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2 win over Lehecka to seal a second HSBC Championships crown.

The victory also handed Alcaraz his fourth grass-court title overall, drawing level with fellow Spaniards Rafael Nadal and Feliciano Lopez for the most grass-court titles won by a Spanish man in the Open Era.
