Kartal makes Wuhan Open final
Sonay Kartal reached her first WTA 1000 final at the Wuhan Open last week in just her second tour-level event after a six-month injury spell.
Kartal became the second British player to reach a WTA 1000 final after Johanna Konta and the lowest-ranked player to make a final at that level.
The 24-year-old got off to a brilliant start in the final against 16th seed Maja Chwalinska but eventually lost 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Kartal had to beat a host of tough opponents throughout the week, including top 10 stars Belinda Bencic and Elina Svitolina, as well as 15th seed Jasmine Paolini and former Grand Slam champion Jelena Ostapenko.
The run has seen Kartal rise back inside the world’s top 50 and become British No.1 for the first time in her career.
Reid completes double at Open du Loiret
Gordon Reid won the men’s singles and doubles titles at the same WC500 tournament for the second time this season at the Open du Loiret in France.
Second seed Reid earned three comfortable straight-sets wins on his way to the singles final against top seed and world No.4 Gustavo Fernandez, including beating Stefan Olsson of Sweden 6-1, 6-3 in the latest rematch of their 2016 Wimbledon final and stretching his unbeaten record against world No.7 Tom Egberink of the Netherlands to 24 matches with a 6-1, 6-1 semi-final victory.
Reid and Fernandez also combined to beat fellow Brit Ben Bartram and Brazilian Daniel Rodrigues in the doubles final 5-7, 7-5, 10-4.
Andy Lapthorne lost in the quad singles semis to eventual champions Jin Woodman of Australia 6-3, 6-3, and bowed out in the semi-finals of the doubles with Ahmet Kaplan.
Elsewhere, Ruben Harris reached his eighth men's doubles final of 2026 at the WC50 Montfermeil, also in France. Ruben and Frederic Cattaneo finished runners-up to second seeds Alexander Lantermann and Maximilian Taucher 7-5, 6-3.
Brits in ATP Challenger Tour finals

Jacob Fearnley, David Stevenson and Marcus Willis all made finals on the ATP Challenger Tour final last week.
Fearnley reached his third Challenger singles final of the season in Olbia, Italy. The British star made the final without dropping a set, securing wins over fellow Brit George Loffhagen, Jan Kumstat, Maxim Mrva and Luca Nardi.
The now world No.87 missed out on his second Challenger title of 2026 to Damir Dzumhur 7-6(4), 6-3.
Stevenson and Willis continued their strong season together with a final run at the Roanne Open – finishing runners-up to Romain Arneodo and Hendrik Jebens 6-4, 6-4.
Elsewhere, Sofia Johnson reached a W100 doubles final in Edmond, USA with Malaika Rapolu. They lost to second seeds Alicia Herrero Linana and Allura Zamarripa 6-1, 6-2.
Xu & Dudeney star of World Tennis Tour

Mimi Xu impressed at the W50 Quebec City last week, reaching finals in both singles and doubles.
The 19-year-old – who recently committed to Duke University in the NCAA – lost out in the singles final to fourth seed Kajsa Rinaldo Persson 6-4, 6-2.
However, she combined with American Reese Brantmeier to win the women’s doubles titles against top seeds Ariana Arseneault and Raphaelle Lacasse 6-2, 6-7(5), 10-5.
On home soil, Alicia Dudeney improved on her incredible World Tennis Tour record by winning the Lexus British Pro Series Birmingham.
The 23-year-old beat France’s Manon Leonard 6-4, 6-3 to capture her sixth singles title of the season.
Meanwhile, Jodie Burrage won the women’s doubles event with Lizette Cabrera 6-4, 7-5 against second seeds Victoria Allen and Stephanie Judith Visscher.
Finally, William Nolan clinched his first World Tennis Tour doubles title of the season with Giulo Perego with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over British duo Marcus Walters and Daniel Wright in the final of the M15 Heraklion.
