Arthur Fery will look to bounce back to winning ways after suffering a first round defeat at the Japan Open last week, and is set to open up his campaign against Marin Cilic. It will mark a first career meeting between the two, with a second round clash against 26th seed Karen Khachanov awaiting the winner.
The British No.1 recorded his first Masters 1000 main draw win at the Cincinnati Open back in August and will look to string together another strong run of results over the next 12 days.
Meanwhile, British No.2 Cam Norrie is set to take on Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrcina in the first round. The 24-year-old qualified for the main draw after beating Britain's Billy Harris and Yoshihito Nishioka.
He was originally supposed to face Denis Shapovalov before the Canadian withdrew from the tournament after sustaining a hip injury in his quarter-final match against Carlos Alcaraz in Tokyo.
Should Norrie win his first round match, he’ll face 28th seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the second round before a potential meeting against Daniil Medvedev in the round of 32.
The Shanghai Masters main draw will get underway from Wednesday 7 October.
