t depends on the stage. In the Qualifiers, ties are played home-or-away over two days as a best-of-five contest, four singles and one doubles rubber, with the home nation choosing the venue and surface.
The first nation to win three rubbers takes the tie. At the Finals, ties are shorter: best-of-three rubbers two singles and, if needed, a doubles rubber played on a single day in a knockout format.
The Qualifiers are played over two rounds: a first round in early February (after the Australian Open) and a second round in September (after the US Open).
Teams that win the first round advance to the second round, and the nations that win there book their place in the Final 8, alongside the host nation and any wild card.
For 2027, the first Round is the week beginning 1 February and the second round is in September. Teams that lose in the 1st Round drop into the World Group I Play-offs.
