Fearnley wins on Challenger Tour, Lumsden reaches WTA final & TS Open Tour visits Giffnock

Jacob Fearnley’s strong grass court campaign reached new heights with his title win at the Newport Challenger in the US.
The Scot, who made the final of the Lexus Ilkley Open, clinched his first singles title of the season and fifth Challenger-level trophy of his career.
Fearnley came through four three-set matches to get his hands on the Newport title – coming after he won through his first round at Wimbledon in a five-set thriller over Alex Michelsen.
In the semi-final in Newport, Fearnley beat Alexis Galarneau 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4, before saving six match points in an epic final against fourth seed Adam Walton to win 5-7, 7-6(8), 6-4.
Lumsden reaches sixth final of 2026
In Athens, Maia Lumsden reached her sixth doubles final of the year, this time alongside Chinese partner Qianhui Tang.
Lumsden and Tang came through two match tie-breaks in the quarter and semi-finals to set up a final against Hao Ching Chan and Miyu Kato.
The British-Chinese duo came back from a set down to force Chan and Kato into another deciding match tie-break, but eventually lost 7-6(3), 4-6, 10-7.
Lumsden – who won the Lexus Nottingham Open with Harriet Dart last month – is now just one place away from a career-high WTA doubles ranking at world No.58.
Fryer & Robinson crowned champions in Giffnock
At home, Cameron Fryer and Molly Robinson were champions at the Tennis Scotland Tour event in Giffnock, which was also part of the Lexus British Tour.
In the men’s event, second seed Fryer picked up a second singles title of the TS Open Tour season by beating Nicolas Rosenzweig in a nailbiting final 6-1, 5-7, 7-6.
Fifth seed Robinson got her hands on the women’s trophy with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Celine Ricaud, following a fantastic week of tennis in the sunshine.
